Nawaz wants consensus on Kalabagh Dam construction

MARDAN - PML-N President Nawaz Sharif on Monday said it was better for the democratic system that the current government was completing its tenure. He also called for consensus before Kalabagh Dam’s construction. Addressing a crowded press conference at the residence of Nawabzada Arsalla Khan, district general secretary of PML-N, he said: “It is the need of the time that a government should come through votes of the masses. A dictator dismissed my elected government, sent me in exile and led the country to the edge of destruction,” he said. Vice President Ameer Muqam, Pir Sabir Shah, Pervez Rasheed, Sardar Mahtab Abbasi, Zafar Iqbal Jaghra, Farid Toofan, Mian Rashid, Ali Khan Yousafzai, Shaheen Habibullah, Salah-ud-Din and other party office bearers and leaders were also present. Nawaz Sharif said that during his government the country was progressing. Had he remained in power the situation would have been different, he said and added that he had united all the provinces as well as the masses of the country. Nawaz Sharif said a dictator killed Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti who was loyal to this country, gave vote in favour of Pakistan and supported the 8th Amendment during his government. He recalled that at that time there was no government of PML-N in Balochistan, but Akhtar Mengal was the best chief minister of the province. He vowed to again unite all the provinces if he came to power. He claimed that during his government, Pak rupee and the country’s economy were stronger than that of India. The PML-N chief said he wanted to link Torkham to Karachi and Gawadar. Had he completed his tenure, he would have ameliorated the lot of the people, he added. Answering a question about the decision of the Lahore High Court on Kalabagh Dam, he said consensus was necessary on this issue. Former federal minister Khawaja Muhammad Khan Hoti along with his son and supporters announced to join PML-N. Addressing the press conference, Khawaja Muhammad Khan Hoti said he was joining PML-N as an ordinary worker and would work to strengthen the party in Mardan district. He added he had been alone struggling against the corrupt government in Mardan during the last four years. He alleged that the leaders of ruling party, Chief Minister Ameer Hiader Hoti and his father Azam Khan Hoti received commission in contracts. Nawaz welcomed Khwaja Hoti’s joing PML-N and said his decision would further strengthen the party.Nawaz Sharif also visited the house of the late Muhammad Ali Khan Hoti and offered fateha for him. Security was red alert in the city during the visit of Nawaz Sharif while some of the roads were blocked for security purposes.
