CAS Amateur Golf commences tomorrow

Lahore - Pakistan Navy is again hosting the Chief of Naval Staff (CAS) Amateur Golf Championship 2014 here at the Royal Palm Golf Course tomorrow (Friday).  
Speaking at the press briefing, Pakistan Navy Station Commander Commodore SM Shahzad, flanked by Royal Palm General Manager Omer Mir, Director Golf Col (r) Jameel Khalid and Director Media Khawaja Pervaiz Saeed, said that this was the fourth championship in succession managed by the Pakistan Navy for the benefit of golf champions and the upcoming talented golf players of the country.  Omer Mir said that for three days starting from Friday to Sunday, the golf players, seeking participating joy and glory, will come forward and demonstrate their playing skills and ability in this championship.
Col (r) Jameel Khalid said that for the amateur golfers in the men's category, an eligibility criterion was the players with a handicap of 12 and below. This restriction ensures that only the talented and established golf players combing the national golf circuit will get a chance to show their prowess. Khawaja Pervaiz said some leading and established names of national golf circuit were competing for the title. Those are M Rehman and Mohsin Zafar (Royal Palm), Tariq Mahmood (Islamabad) Ghazanfar Mehmood, Khalid Mehmood (Rawalpindi), Zulfiqar Ali and Ashiq Hussain (Multan), Salman Jehangir and Wazir Ali (Lahore Gymkhana).
“Besides the main event, the other events at stake are seniors event, for participants in the age bracket 55 years and above and having a handicap of 14 and below, ladies event, open to ladies with a handicap of 30 and below and juniors having a handicap of 24 and below.” The main event for amateurs will be contested over three rounds with 18 holes to be played each day making it a total of 54 holes. Winner in this category will be awarded the title and the trophy and the victorious one will be the competitor with the best gross score, he added.
The seniors will compete over a total of 18 holes with 9 holes to be played on December 5 and 9 holes on Dec 6. The ladies contest will be over 18 holes on December 6 and criteria for handicap is 30 and below.  Commodore SM Shahzad said: “Pakistan Navy is the sponsor of this prestigious championship along with other sponsors. Navy wishes to maintain and seek to enhance its association with sports promotion and development. Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammed Zakaullah is a sports lover and wholeheartedly subscribes to the holding of this national golf event and wishes the best to all participants.”
