ISLAMABAD - Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif on Wednesday said that training was a vital part of every soldier’s professional development and highest standard of training and professionalism must remain their hallmark to accomplish the assigned mission.

He was addressing the concluding ceremony of Pakistan Army Annual Firing Competition at Army Firing Range near Jehlum.

General Raheel Sharif, Chief of Army Staff witnessed the concluding session of two weeks long competition in which participating troops exhibited their skills in rifle and light machinegun fire.

A statement released by the ISPR stated that Gen Raheel said that a new training regime had been introduced in the army to enhance the firing efficiency of individuals and units. A number of new and innovative steps have been taken to realize the concept.

In this regard, an Army Marksmanship Unit has also been established, which is a quantum leap towards improvement of firing standards of soldiers of Pakistan Army. Yet another step is conduct of firing competitions within the army on new format using latest techniques in consonance with constantly changing combat environment. Similarly, a number of improvements in weapons and ammunition have also been introduced.

“While appreciating the excellent standard of marksmanship of participating firers from all over the army, COAS expressed his complete satisfaction over the standard of shooting skills achieved by the individual officers and soldiers of Pakistan Army,” said the statement.

COAS also gave away the trophies and medals to the winner team and individual firers. Naib Subedar Sana Ullah and Havildar Amir Nawaz secured first positions in rifle G-3 and light machine gun matches respectively. 2 Corps Multan won the overall trophy for the Year 2014.
