Immediately after assuming the command of National Highways & Motorway Police (NH&MP), IG Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema, had taken up the task of replacing the aging fleet of motorway police and was successful in seeking approval from the government. As many as 48 patrolling mobiles (40 cars and 08 single cabins) were handed over the Motorway Zone for effective patrolling and better enforcement between Peshawar and Lahore.
Later on, all the other zones would be handed over with new patrolling mobiles. Secretary Communications Shahid Ashraf Tarar said, “Motorway police force is symbol of pride for the whole nation.”
IG Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema said that motorway police had brought a good name to the country and this department should be furnished with all necessary resources for smooth functioning of operational department tasks. A predominant number of patrolling vehicles have completed their prescribed mileage, he added, and induction of new vehicles would certainly infuse new spirit in the performance and capability of motorway police. This would also facilitate commuters as patrolling officers would approach them without any delay when the former are in distress. He also said that the entire strength of motorway police strictly adheres to virtues of honesty, curtsey and help.
