Lahore - Former president Asif Ali Zardari while addressing the PPP leaders and workers at the PPP Punjab Secretariat at Model Town here Wednesday said that he had issued instructions to PPP office-bearers to hold party workers in highest esteem because they were invaluable asset of the party.

Asif Ali Zardari was received by Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, Tanvir Ashraf Kaira and other party leaders and workers when he arrived at its Model Town Secretariat this afternoon.

The PPP Co-Chairman appreciated the efforts of the PPP workers and the management for putting so many efforts in making the foundation day convention of party a resounding success. He expressed his appreciation over the performance of the PPP Punjab chapter.

On this occasion, Manzoor Wattoo expressed his deep sense of gratitude on the visit of the co-chairman to the secretariat, saying they were beholden to him for setting up PPP Punjab Secretariat on permanent basis. He apprised the co-chairman that all the workers and office-bearers were enthusiastically engaged in decorating the city of Lahore. It was only due to their day and night efforts and elaborate decoration of the metropolis that Lahore was presenting the look of a PPP city, he observed. It was unprecedented indeed, he added.

He stated that the PPP workers were highly motivated and the party would be in a much strong position to contest elections in future to win sizeable number of seats in the province.

Later, the co-chairman went around the secretariat building to see the working of different sections. People working there were excited to see him among them.

After the visit of the PPP secretariat, co-chairman and Manzoor Wattoo together went to the residence of Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood, former Punjab governor, and had lunch with him at his residence. They discussed during the meeting various propositions to make central and southern Punjab PPP bodies more strong and robust entities.

Those who were present at the dinner were Tanvir Ashraf Kaira, Nadeem Afzal Chan, political advisor to the co-chairman and two sons of the host, Mustafa Mahmood and Murtza Mahmood who were elected representatives of the National Assembly and one of them of the Punjab Assembly.

During his visit to PPP Punjab office in Model Town on Wednesday, Zardari also visited the office of Bhutto Legacy Foundation. Chairman Bhutto Legacy Foundation Bashir Riaz welcomed the former president and briefed him about its working.   

Zardari is scheduled to meet ex-MNAs, MPAs, ticket holders and district presidents at Siddique Form near Kamoki at 1 pm on Thursday (today).

Meanwhile, former Pakistan ambassador to US Sherry Rehman was on Wednesday nominated as vice-president of the Pakistan People’s Party-Parliamentarians.

A notification to this effect was issued with the signatures of PPP-P President Makhdum Amin Fahim.
