PESHAWAR - Pakistan People’s Party central leader and Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah has urged the federal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments to extend maximum assistance to the October 26 earthquake affectees and take steps for their early rehabilitation.

The rehabilitation of the earthquake affected people is the responsibility of the state, Shah said and urged the government to provide maximum relief assistance to the affected families to protect them against the extreme cold weather.

While addressing a news conference here at the residence of party’s former provincial president Syed Zahir Shah, the opposition leader said that the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) will decide about the office of the party’s co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

He said that the party’s central leadership has already taken notice of the party failure in the recently held local government elections across the country and constituted a three-member committee to look into the party affairs, he added.

Shah said that PPP is the only pro-masses political party, and will soon emerge as the most popular party in the country. He also said that ‘No doubt MQM is a strong force in Karachi, but this time PPP nominated candidates will give them tough time in the local bodies elections and PPP candidates will get maximum seats in the LG polls.

On the occasion, party’s Provincial President Senator Khanzada Khan, General Secretary Engr. Hamyun Khan, MNA from Sindh Dr. Nafeesa Shah, Senator Robina Khalid, PPP MPAs Nighat Orakzai, Mohammad Ali Bacha, Salim Khan and Sahibzada Sanaullah, PPP leaders Syed Zahir Shah, Najamuddin Khan, Faisal Karim Kundi, Akhunzada Chatan, Alamzeb Utmani, Engr. Tariq Khattak, and Zahir Shah Toru were also present.

The opposition leader said that rehabilitation of the earthquake affected people is the responsibility of federal and provincial governments, and extended his party’s support to the affected families assuring that they wouldn’t let them alone at this critical time.
