Two former judges named ad hoc judges of SC

LAHORE - A judicial commission has recommended names of two former judges - Tariq Pervez and Khilji Arif Hussain - for their appointment as ad hoc judges of the Supreme Court for a period of one year.
The SC commission also recommended the appointment of Mohsin Kiyani and Aurengzeb Khan as additional judges of the Islamabad High Court. It was decided in the meeting of the judicial commission held at SC Lahore registry on Thursday.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali and other members including Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, Justice Ameer Hani Muslim, Justice Ijaz Afzal Khan, IHC Chief Justice Anwar Khan Kasi, senior puisne judge of IHC Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi, federal law minister Pervez Rashid, attorney general Salman Butt and Pakistan Bar Council’s member Yasin Azad headed the meeting.
The commission also confirmed appointment of Justice Amir Farooq as additional judge of the IHC.
Mr Azad, a representative of bar, opposed the appointment of ad hoc judges during the meeting. He said that the Supreme Court in a famous case of Al-Jihad Trust had discouraged ad hoc appointments in judiciary.
However, other members said Article 182 of the Constitution authorises Supreme Court to appoint ad hoc judges in case of dire need. The recommendations would be forwarded to Parliamentary Committee for their approval.
