LAHORE Balochistan Chief Secretary Nasir Mehmood Khan Khosa has been appointed as the new Punjab Chief Secretary while the services of his predecessor Javed Mehmood has placed at the disposal of the Punjab government, though he is expected to be posted to the Prime Ministers Secretariat later on. Nasir Mehmood Khosa is from the 6th Common and in Grade-22. Previously, he had served in various capacities in the Punjab. He was Principal Secretary to former Governor Khalid Maqbool, Additional Secretary Finance Department, Commissioner Multan Division and Deputy Commissioner Lahore during the last tenure of incumbent Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif from 1997 to 1999. He was also Additional Secretary at PMs Secretariat Islamabad, Joint Secretary/Program Director of ASPL-II Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock. Prior to his stint as CS Balochistan, Nasir Mahmood Khosa had served Balochistan in different capacities from 1979 to 1991. Nasir Khosa is also part of Board of Directors of the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited. He has a fellowship in Public Administration from Hubert H Humphrey, the US. When the search was on for the Punjab CS after February 18 polls (2008), Nasir Khosa was also considered for the slot. He is said to be close to the Sharifs. The sources confided that on Tuesday, Shahbaz Sharif and Premier Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani discussed various names, and finally, they agreed on Nasir Khosas appointment. His real brother Tariq Masood Khosa is presently serving as Director General FIA. On the other hand, sources disclosed that although the Punjab CM had accepted the leave application of Javed Mahmood, a notification in this regard despite being signed, was yet to be issued. Now his services have been placed at the disposal of the Punjab government and it is expected that he will be called back by the Centre for his onward posting the PMs Secretariat, added the source. Bari Baloch from Quetta adds: Various names of senior officers were under consideration for the post of CS Balochistan. The names of senior bureaucrats are under consideration for head of bureaucracy in Balochistan. They are Ahmad Bakhsh Lahri, the local of Balochistan, Zafar Ahmad Qadir and Khawaja Siddiq-e-Akbar. Lahri served in the province for long as additional secretary Planning and Development and Chairman Gwadar Port Authority. The rest of two officers who belong to Punjab province have also been serving Balochistan in various capacities. A source close to provincial government told this ascribe that the Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani who is in Islamabad was in contact with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani regarding the appointment of new Chief Secretary. The sources said that Chief Minister Raisani conveyed his choice of Ahmad Bakhsh Lahri to Prime Minister for the chief Secretary post while Mr. Akbar and Qadir are known to be lobbying for themselves for the post. The sources further said Chief Minister is calling on Prime Minister on Thursday and will discuss the appointment of new Chief Secretary in the province.
