The media warriors, who have been predicting the end of government by harping on the mantra of clash of institutions for the last many months, must have been disappointed with the recent statements from the honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan and Prime Minister. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry made it clear in one of his observations that judiciary was working for strengthening democracy in the country. Likewise, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani also made a significant statement in the National Assembly that government would implement the NRO verdict in letter and spirit after contentious points are clarified. Both these luminaries happen to be the highest officeholders in the land that represent their respective institutions, the judiciary and democratic government. They have made it clear through their utterances that there was no chance of clash among the institutions of the state. I believe that it is by remaining within the constitutional domains that democratic order can be strengthened and this is exactly what has been said much to the dismay of the media warriors. -SONIA ZAFAR, Lahore, January 30.
