QUETTA - No retired government officer has been appointed on contract in Balochistan except one appointment in the Police Department, sources in the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) told The Nation. Sources said that the current government of Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani had decided in principle on the day one that appointment of retired government officers on contract would be discouraged except under unavoidable circumstances. They said that the provincial government not only strictly followed its principled decision and avoided appointment of retired officers on contract during the last two and a half year, but also stopped extension in the contract of those retired officers who were appointed by the previous government. Since appointment of retired officers on contract blocks promotions of many deserving officials and creates anxiety amongst all, the provincial governments policy in this regard is exemplary. Sources said that only a retired police officer has been appointed by the federal government in the Police Department of Balochistan. Sources said that the Chief Minister, however, had taken notice of the appointment and written to the federal government to express reservations.
