LAHORE Deviating from the stand taken by the Supreme Court Bar Association on the Supreme Court decision to indict nine judges on the charges of contempt of court, the cabinet of Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) on Thursday appreciated the verdict terming it landmark and checking the judges from taking PCO oath in future. SCBA President Asma Jahangir while on Wednesday had termed the decision unreasonable and said the act was tantamount to inflicting harm to its own status. She said it was better to send these judges home or refer the matter against them to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC). Countering Asmas statement, the LHC body commended the SC decision as historic and landmark to prevent the dictators from forcing the judges to take oath under PCO. LHCBA President Mian Abdul Qaddus along with other office-bearers said the decision was a first step the independent judiciary had taken after it came into existence as a consequence of the lawyers historic movement. They said the decision would strongly deter the judges from vindicating illegal and unconstitutional acts of a dictator. They also demanded contempt of court proceedings against Pervez Musharraf and his accomplices.
