ISLAMABAD - The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) submitted its rejoinder against the petition filed by the counsel of former President Asif Ali Zardari while seeking acquittal of his client in all the five references reopened against him after his departure from the Presidency.
The Accountability Court (AC) Judge Muhammad Bashir was hearing the five NAB references against former President Asif Ali Zardari.
Additional Prosecutor NAB, Akbar Tarar, submitted the rejoinder against the petition filed by the accused counsel for seeking acquittal in all the five references. He argued that the accused could not be acquitted since testimonies are yet to be recorded against him and he claimed that solid proofs of corruption have been found.
Later, talking to the media Farooq H Naek said that NAB has opposed the acquittal plea of Asif Ali Zardari, adding that NAB would be presenting new witnesses and he would argue against the NAB rejoinder in the next hearing to be held on February 24.
It may be recalled that during the previous hearing Farooq H Naek filed the petitions for acquittal of his client in the references that included polo ground, SGS, Cotecna, ARY and Ursus tractors. The petitioner made a plea that there was neither any solid evidence nor any witness exists against his client and, therefore, he prayed to the court for his acquittal order in the references.
