LAHORE  - Police yesterday arrested a stage-dancer and her assistant in connection with the death of a 45-year-old promoter in Nawab Town.

Investigators identified the deceased as Chaudhry Imtiaz, said to be a dance-promoter in Dubai. Police sources say the promoter used to take female dancers to Dubai from the Punjab province since he was running a hotel there.

Initial investigations revealed that Imtiaz fell unconscious after consuming liquor in huge quantity at the house of the stage-dancer Sapna. The resident of Lahore’s Awan Town was immediately rushed to the Jinnah Hospital where he was pronounced as brought dead. The body was moved to the morgue for an autopsy.

Sapna told the police that that Imtiaz was staying at her house last night when he took liquor in excessive quantity. According to the lady, he was rushed to a hospital shortly after his condition got deteriorated. But he died in the way.

A police officer said that Sapna and her young assistant Abdullah were in police custody. “They are being interrogated to establish facts”.

Police are investigating the death. An investigator said they would initiate legal action in the light of the autopsy report.
