LAHORE - The imposition of essential services Maintenance Act 1952 for Pakistan International Airline (PIA) has been challenged in the Lahore High Court.
A lawyer Ishtiaq Chaudhary has filed the petition and pointed out that essential services Maintenance Act 1952 for the employees of PIA is against the Constitution. He says no laws permits to stop any person protesting for his rights. This law, the lawyer says, is imposed at the time when the state faces unavoidable security threat. He has prayed the court to set aside the approval of this Act for PIA.
On January 31, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif approved the essential services Maintenance Act 1952 for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for a period of six months. The premier enforced the act after signing a summary of the aviation division to this effect.
The move came after the PIA employees prepared to halt flight operations, following the failure of talks with the government on the proposed privatisation move.
