Sale of unhygienic meat goes unchecked

SIALKOT

Butchers are selling unhygienic mutton and beef across Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur cities with connivance of officials of tehsil municipal administrations (TMAs), livestock and health.
The practice continues unabated due to which the people have been suffering from several fatal diseases especially of stomach, blood pressure and hepatitis.
Most of the butchers slaughter animals in front of their roadside makeshifts instead of slaughtering the animals in the local slaughter houses in Sialkot district here. Several people including Ramzan, Bashir, Rakha, Sakeena and Abdul Majeed said that most of the butchers slaughter sick animals. Moreover they mix water with mutton and beef for increasing weight, they said.
According to the medical experts, the meat which absorbs water, become unhygienic. They said that the unabated and unchecked sale and use of the water mixed meat was rapidly spreading hepatitis and other diseases.
The people further said that the butchers were often found slaughtering animals in their houses or around their shops in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial, Uggoki, Pasrur, Chawinda, Badiana and surrounding areas with the alleged malpractice of government officials. They said that they had brought the practice repeatedly into the notice of the TMAs, livestock and veterinary health departments but to no avail..
Social, religious and political circles have urged Punjab Chief Minister Shshbaz Sharif and DCO Dr Asif Tufail to take strict notice in this regard.
