Stage actress shot dead in Mardan

MARDAN - A local female stage actress and model was shot dead here on Saturday in the posh area of the city, Sheikh Maltoon Town, police and hospital sources said.

According to Sheikh Maltoon Town police station, Mir Bahadur, a resident of Rustam, currently living in Sector-T Street No-9 Sheikh Maltoon Town told police that he along with his granddaughter Sumbal was present at their house at Sheikh Malton Town.

He added that during that time Naeem Khattak, a resident of Charsadda, Jahangir, a resident of Peshawar and Naseeb Shah, a resident of Jhagra Peshawar, entered the house. He told police that the alleged accused wanted to take her for a musical show but she refused to go with them.

He told police that the accused allegedly started firing as a result of which Sumbal died on the spot. Police registered a case against the accused and started the investigation.

The killers escaped from the scene after committing the crime. However, sources added that Naeem Khattak is a former police officer and Jahangir is also allegedly involved in killing of Ghazala Javed, a well-known singer. Sources added that Sumbal worked in several Pashto CD dramas and also worked in several advertisements as a model.

Meanwhile, dead body of a 24-year-old man was found from the Sera Koroona Kalphani at Toru village on Saturday, police and locals said.

The relatives of the deceased placed the dead body outside Regional Police Officer (RPO) Mardan range in protest. The official at Toru police station said that the residents of the area informed the officials of Toru police station about the presence of the body at the Kalphani (Water channel) at Sera Koroona at Toru village.

Police reached the area and shifted the body to District Headquarter Hospital. He said that the deceased was identified Gul Akbar, a resident of Bagh Iram. Police said that relatives of the deceased visited the hospital and identified the dead body. According to police, there were no signs of torture or bullets on the bodies. However, the reason of death will be clear after the post-mortem report, police added. Police started the investigation under section 174.

Later on, relatives of the deceased placed the body on the road in front of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Mardan range as a protest. The relatives of the deceased were chanting slogans against the local police for its failure to protect the masses of the district. Later on, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
