Three terror suspects held in raid near Adiala Jail

Rawalpindi - Personnel of two intelligence agencies raided a house near Adiala Jail and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition besides nabbing three suspected terrorists, sources disclosed to The Nation on Saturday.

The raiding team that also included personnel of Pak Army also recovered laptops, mobile phones, electronic devices, jihadi literature and USBs from the house, the sources added. The held suspects were shifted to unknown location for interrogation, they said. The sources said that the detainees are believed to having links with anti-Pakistan intelligence agencies.

According to the sources, the raid was carried out following highly-confidential information at 3 am. “It was a highly-targeted operation that remained successful. Police were kept unaware about the highly-confidential operation,” said a senior officer of a department responsible for securing the state. He said that the action was part of operation Radd-ul-Fasaad. He said that the detainees were involved in sharing sensitive information with intelligence agencies of anti-Pakistan countries.

“We are examining the stuff we recovered from possession of the detainees. We will soon get into their brains as to what kind of terror plan they were making or to whom they wanted to target,” he said.

On the other hand, the raid and recovery of weapons within swelled wave of panic among police and personnel of other law enforcement agencies. Teams of LEAs thronged towards Kalyal and started collecting information from the locals about the raid. “We are completely unaware about operation in Kalyal,” said SP Saddar Iftikhar Ul Haq. He said that intelligence agencies usually kept such operations secret and did not inform the police. CPO Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi was not available for comments.

Meanwhile, Islamabad police along with Rangers conducted search operation in various areas of Tarnol and Secretariat police stations and arrested 28 suspects including seven drug pushers besides recovering 6.65 kilograms of hashish and 1.1 kilogram heroine from them.

According to details, personnel of Islamabad Police and Pak Rangers conducted search operation in various areas of Tarnol and Secretariat police stations under supervision of SP (Saddar) Aamir Khan Niazi and SP City Ahmed Iqbal. SHOs of Tarnol and Secretariat police joined the operation while police commandos, lady commandos and staff of bomb disposal squad also participated in it. 

They screened 200 houses and checked more than 180 persons, interrogated them and arrested 28 suspects including seven drug pushers. SSP Islamabad Najeeb ur Rehman said that purpose of the search operation was to ensure high vigilance in the city, saying every effort would be made to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens. He appealed to the citizens to remain vigilant and inform police in case of any suspicious activity around them.
