ISLAMABAD (Agencies) - President Asif Ali Zardari has said that in order to eradicate menace of terrorism in the region, there is a dire need of adopting a regional approach involving Iran and China to counter it. He said terrorism was a monster that required combined efforts of the countries in the region to tackle it. President Zardari was talking to special envoy of Iran Gholamhossein Nozari who called on him at Presidencyto deliver a letter from President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadi Nejad. During the meeting, President Zardari denounced the Israeli attack on Gaza, terming it a violation of UN Human Rights Charter and urged the international community to step in and halt the violence that has claimed over 430 lives so far. He said Pakistan has expressed grave concern over the attacks in Gaza and called for cessation of brutal aggression against unarmed and innocent Palestinians. The President said the Pakistan government had urged the international community to bring an end to violence against the Palestinians and promote a peaceful, just and durable settlement of the issue in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. Iran's special envoy apprised President Zardari of Israel's recent offensive in Gaza, saying that the blockade of the Gaza Strip and continuous airstrikes by Israel have posed severe threats to regional security and stability. Zardari told Nozari that the menace of terrorism in the region was all-encompassing, and therefore, there was a need for adopting a regional approach to counter it. He said that with Iran and China's help, the monster of terrorism could be effectively tackled. He appealed to both China and Iran to join the global war on terror. The President urged China, Iran and other regional countries to adopt a joint strategy to counter growing terrorism in the region. Nozari said that Iran is keen to go ahead with the gas pipeline project involving Pakistan and India to further economic cooperation. Nowzari said his country considers its trade and economic relations with Pakistan very important and wants to complete the IPI gas pipeline as early as possible. The envoy handed over the President a special message of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Zardari accepted the invitation by his Iranian counterpart to visit the neighboring country.
