Hockey trials for Gojra, Karachi academy players begin

LAHORE - The trials to select players for the PHF Hockey Academies in Gojra and Karachi held at both the venues on Saturday. Around 60 under 14, 15 and 16 players from Gojra appeared in the trials. According to Secretary Punjab Hockey Association and member national selection committee Rana Mujahid Ali, aboput 33 shining players have been short-listed for the Gojra Academy. The trials were observed by selection committee of the Punjab comprising Anjum Saeed (Chairman), Shabir Ahmad, Akhlaq Ahmad, Gulraiz Sheikh and Khalid Rasool along with coaches of Gojra Academy Mohammad Aslam Roda (Gojra), Khawar Javed (NBP) and Muhammad Arshad (Police). The trials to select players for Academy No.1 in Karachi were held at UBL Sports Complex and 52 players appeared in trials. The selection committee of Sindh decided to hold the trials for academy no.1 again at UBL Sports Complex today (Sunday) at 3.30 pm. The selection committee of Sindh Waseem Feroze (Chairman), Mumtaz Haider, Farooq Khan and M. Khalid along with coaches of academy no.1 Karachi Saleem Sherwani (PIA), Jan Muhammad (UBL) and Muhammad Ali (Custom) took the trials. Moreover, trials will be held in another two cities today (Saturday). Trials will be held in Lahore at National Hockey Stadium Lahore at 1030am. The selection committee of Punjab along with Coaches of Lahore Academy Qasim Khan (Police), Rana Muhammad Zaheer (Lahore) and Mujahid Afzal (ABL) will observe the trials. The trials will be held in Banu at 10am. The selection committee of NWFP Naeem Akhtar (Chairman), Zia Banori, Rahim Khan and Musaddiq Khan along with coaches of Banu academy Anwar Rasheed (Banu), Shafqat Ullah (Wapda) and Nazir Gul (Banu) will observe the trials.
