There should be little doubt that the electricity crisis is one of the biggest issues in Pakistan. It has become more than a headache for the people of Pakistan. There is so much loadshedding that it has started to hurt the national economy. A major reason behind this problem is the theft of electricity. Currently, theft is around 40% in Karachi and in all other major cities it ranges from 10 to 30%. It is clear that the government is unable to meet the demand of electricity because of shortage of dams and other sources of power generation coupled with mismanagement of power houses. Yet another cause is the free units given by WAPDA to its employees as an incentive. A lot of electricity is wasted through this manner. ALI HAIDER, PROF. JAVARIA QAIS, January 3.
