After the missing persons case, especially he case of Umer Cheema, a journalist based in Islamabad, a number of people fear that anyone can be picked up at will by the police or other agencies at anytime. However, there are a few things that should be kept in mind so that the fear factor can be dealt with. First of all, the intelligence agencies or police cannot pick up anyone and dump him at some secret place. There are rules and laws which prohibit this and moreover the fundamental rights of the citizens have been guaranteed by the constitution of Pakistan. The relatives of the missing person can file a petition in a court of law and the agencies will be brought to justice. This is an important legal point to keep in mind.
