LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has questioned as to how “imported personalities who enjoyed luxuries abroad for six years can bring about change in homeland”.

“These elements are talking of revolution in an attempt to cover corrupt people. I have been voicing against loot-and-plunder spree of the rulers since I have waged war for public rights”, he told the participants of a laptop distribution ceremony at the Government College University on Thursday.

The chief minister said induction of teachers on merit, laptop distribution, internship programme, Educational Endowment Fund, prize distribution among position holders and giving guard of honor to brilliant student in Punjab was a true change. He claimed that the services rendered by Punjab government, for the last five years, in the fields of education, were unprecedented in the history of the country.

Congratulating the students, who got laptops on, the CM said he was pleased to attend the function held in this great institution. He said the GCU was playing an important role in the promotion of quality education. He said the country could be brought out of the darkness of poverty, ignorance and unemployment, through promotion of education and merit.

He said, unfortunately, education sector was ignored in the past however Pakistan could be transformed from the country which gets aid to the one which gives aid by imparting education to every child.

Shahbaz said had Zar Baba and 40 Thieves not plundered national resources, these resources would also have been spent on the brilliant students for their education. He said rulers sitting in Islamabad had made the country pauper but they would be held accountable.

He said those who raised the slogan of “Parha Likha Punjab”, during the previous dictatorship wasted two and half billion rupees on building of CM Secretariat, instead of utilising the amount for education. He said the billions of rupees were also wasted on luxurious palaces, President House and Prime Minister House as well.

The chief minister said the Punjab government had utilised all its resources in a transparent manner for the welfare of the general public. He hoped that the students getting laptops would be able to design MBS like developmental projects. He said the country had to face natural calamities like floods and dengue, during which the imported people enjoyed in foreign countries, leaving the masses in distress.

Shahbaz Sharif said imported elements should realise that they were not bringing any revolution or change, but the Punjab government has laid the foundation of the real change and revolution by empowering the youth.

He said one Khan Sahib taunted us with dengue, however, he left the people in difficulty and went to London, but the PML-N leadership stood with the people in the hour of trial. He said how could those who left the people alone in difficult situation, talk about ending corruption and changing the destiny of the nation.
