EPZ to be established in Rawalpindi: Cheema

RAWALPINDI – The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) and Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish an Export Processing Zone in the region to promote export orientated industry.
The President RCCI Manzar Khurshid Sheikh and Chairman EPZA M. Saadat S. Cheema ink accord in a ceremony held here at the Chamber on Thursday and also inaugurated EPZA office in Rawalpindi Chamber to strengthen mutual cooperation.
Vice President Nadeem Rauf, Group Leader Najamul Haq Malik, former presidents, members’ executive committee and other member of the chamber were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion Chairman EPZA Saadat Cheema said that Rawalpindi is situated in prime location for trade with China, Central Asian States, Afghanistan and Kashmir.
He said that all facilities will be provided in processing zone by EPZA to keep the momentum of business activities on. “EPZA purpose is to promote export oriented industry to generate more revenue for the country”, he said. Cheema said that EPZA is making all out efforts to enhance exports and hence all the facilities is being provided in export processing zones in the country in this regard.
He said that EPZA focusing Rawalpindi region and committed to work with the collaboration with Rawalpindi Chamber and opening of EPZA office in the premises of RCCI is the first step in this regard.
Speaking on the Occasion President RCCI Manzar Khurshid Sheikh said that establishment of Export Processing Zone is the utmost demand of the Rawalpindi chamber and according to the geographical importance of the region it has become a need of the hour also. He said that RCCI believe in mutual cooperation and opening of EPZA office in RCCI building will lead the cooperation at its peak. He said that beside Halal products EPZA should also focus women entrepreneurs to flourish their skills.
