ABBOTTABAD - The 130 MW Hydropower Station Duber Khwar Friday started its power generation first of its production of precious electric power.
The 130MW of precious electrical energy will be soon available to national grid. Unit 1 of the Duber Khwar hydropower was synchronised to the national grid and started test production of energy. This was stated by the Project Director Iftikhar Ahmed while talking to APP.
He further said that developing hydropower in the remote and hilly areas of Pakistan with all the potential catastrophes of Mother Nature was the real challenge but WAPDA and Andritz Hydro accepted this challenge with its commitment to “Empower Pakistan”.
Giving the details of the project Iftikhar Ahmed said that after completion of the major civil works activities in April 2013, Andritz Hydro managed to erect and commission the Hydropower Station within a record period of 8 Months.
This new Hydropower station with state of the art equipment will help people to shorten their energy deficit and stabilise the power systems installed, adding he said. Iftikhar Ahmed stated that this power plant would also provide energy to the local areas with an opportunity of economic and social growth to the remote and far district of Kohistan.
Talking about the technical support he said that Andritz Hydro Austria has supplied and installed the complete electro-mechanical equipment and services with the focus on its “water to wire” concept. The supplies consisted of two 65 MW Pelton-type turbines with a rated head of 516 m, associated Generators and Generator Auxiliaries, the complete Electrical Power Systems incl, Iftikhar Ahmed maintained.
The Project Duber Khwar is located on the same name river, at Right bank tributary of the Indus River in the Khyber Pakhtoon-khawa (KPK) province, District Kohistan. The location is approximate 300 km north of Islamabad.
