Housewives take to the streets

HAFIZABAD
A number of housewives here have protested against the exorbitant prices of chicken and eggs and low gas pressure.
They called upon the administration to control price hike “backed by the poultry association which, with collusion of some officials, fixes the rates”.  It was pointed out by the protesting housewives that chicken meat is being sold in Hafizabad at Rs283 per kilogramme whereas in Gujranwala and other cities it is being sold at Rs230 per kg. Eggs are selling at Rs120 per dozen against Rs80 to Rs90 per dozen in other cities which is injustice, they said.
They added that low gas pressure had blown off their stoves and they were constrained to purchase cooked meals from restaurants thereby badly affecting their domestic budget.
NEW PLEDGE: MPA Fayyaz Ahmad has said that the PML-N government was taking steps to end loadshedding in the country in the shortest time possible time.  Addressing the distribution of energy savers to consumers at Gepco office Hafizabad, he said that the distribution was a revolutionary step which was aimed to decrease loadshedding. He said that due to use of energy savers, electricity consumption would be reduced and the consumers would be relieved of heavy bills.
Gepco Executive Engineer Hafizabad Faisal Nafees Yousaf told the gathering that 57,000 energy savers would be distributed free of cost. In the first phase, 27,000 consumers would get two energy savers in lieu of one bulb, he added. He further said that under the programme, 120 megawatts electricity would be saved in the Gepco region alone.
