ISLAMABAD - Indian High Commissioner Dr TCA Raghavan called on Vice Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Shah Mehmood Qureshi here at the Party’s central office on Friday.
Issues of mutual interest, bilateral relations between Pakistan and India and the geopolitical situation of the region were discussed at length in the meeting.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi pointed to the PTI Chairman’s recent visit to India and stated that PTI believes in improving relations between Pakistan and India through dialogue and negotiation to arrive at peaceful solutions to all the outstanding conflicts between the two nuclear neighbours. The Vice Chairman PTI also discussed the scheduled withdrawal of NATO and ISAF forces from Afghanistan and the possibility of a regional strategy for peace and stability once the transition was completed.
Asserting the need to address water problem between Pakistan and India, Qureshi said that sensing the significance of the issue, the leadership of both the countries should evolve a comprehensive, just and viable mechanism of water distribution between the two states. He also highlighted PTI’s stance on the construction of dams across LoC including the Kishenganga Dam.
In the meeting, the Pak-Iran gas pipeline project came under discussion too and it was agreed that the project holds promise for all the three countries i.e. Iran, Pakistan and India. Both sides deliberated upon the recent meeting of the DGMOs, citing it as a positive development and expressed satisfaction over its outcome.
Dr TCA Raghvan acknowledged PTI and its leadership’s vision of promoting peace in the region and appreciated Chairman Imran Khan’s philosophy of resolving disputes through negotiations and dialogue. He also thanked Shah Mehmood Qureshi for welcoming him at the PTI office.
