LAHORE - Two minor boys were found dead from a drain, a day after they went missing from Civil Lines police precincts under mysterious circumstances, police sources said on Saturday.
Both the boys, identified as four-year-old Moawiya and five-year-old Waqar Hussain were playing in the street on Friday evening when they disappeared mysteriously.
Police are investigating whether the boys died accidentally after falling into the drain or they were thrown into the drain after being killed by someone. The police have moved the bodies to the morgue for autopsy.
Resident of 5-Fane Road, Babar Hussain, told the police that his son Waqar and his friend Moawiya left the house to fetch bread from a nearby shop on Friday evening but they did not come back home.
The complainant also suspected that unidentified men might have kidnapped the boys from the street and they were thrown into the drain after being killed.
The victim families contacted the police late Friday after they failed to trace the whereabouts of the kids. The Civil Lines police registered a case and launched probe. On early Saturday, a good number of local residents launched a search operation to pull out the victim from the drain. After hours long hectic efforts, they managed to pull out the bodies of the boys from the drain. Hundreds of people gathered outside their houses as the news about the kids’ death spread like jungle fire in the locality.
