LAHORE (PR) - The administration of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) has strongly denied the statement of an YDA spokesperson, which was published in some daily newspapers on Saturday.

The allegation that some senior doctors from SKMCH&RC had tried to pressurise the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) to prevent the hiring of these or any other doctors by the Children’s Hospital Lahore is totally false, malicious and baseless, the SKMCH&RC spokesperson has said.

SKMCH&RC had previously informed the CPSP regarding the unavailability of an approved supervisor for its paediatric oncology fellowship training programme but the hospital is unaware of the abolition of this or any other training programme at SKMCH&RC by the CPSP, the spokesperson adds.

The claim of the YDA spokesperson that the paediatric oncology department at SKMCH&RC was non-functional was also categorically denied. “This is not only absolutely incorrect, but it is also a deliberate attempt to malign a great institution serving the poor cancer patients of Pakistan, and is to be condemned in the strongest possible terms,” the spokesperson further says.

The paediatric oncology service at SKMCH&RC, which is staffed by overseas trained professionals and fully-qualified paediatric oncologists, continues to provide state-of-the-art care to children with cancer.
