ISLAMABAD - Newly-crowned national tenpin bowling doubles champion Zafar Iqbal Saturday expressed his utter satisfaction over his performance in the recently concluded 8th National Tenpin Bowling Championship.

Zafar said he returned to bowling after taking a year’s break and winning doubles title without any practice against one of the best and inform pair gave him a great satisfaction. “Now I am back and fully focused on the task ahead, I would love to play the sheet anchor role in helping Pakistan lift the coming Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship in Thailand from 15th to 26th of this month. I expect to be the part of the contingent due to my national rankings. If selected and given a chance, I would prove my worth.”

A former national champion and current Islamabad champion Zafar said his performance suggested that he could still help the country to win laurels at international stage and if he had been included in Pakistan team for World Cup held in UAE they would not return empty-handed. He said he was supposed to travel to Saudi Arabia to represent Pakistan in international event along with Ali Suriya and Shabbir Lashkarwala but despite repeated contacts with Virtual Axis CEO Khawaja Ahmed Mustaqeem, who were the title sponsors of the event and had promised to sponsor top three players, he did not fulfill his promise. When this scribe contacted Khawaja Ahmed for his view his numbers were powered off.

“I have also time and again requested Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation secretary Ijaz-ur-Rehman to look into this matter and resolve the issue. He has promised to resolve the matter. I am Pakistan number two in national rankings announced by the PTBF recently and so deserve better treatment. We are blessed with number of natural and gifted players, but we are far behind when we compare with other countries just because of non-availability of quality coaches. The PTBF is doing its best for the bowlers in their limited resources but federation needs funds. It is just because of tireless efforts of secretary Ijaz that federation managed to get registered with POA, PSB, have our own bowling club and we have managed to participate in number of international events.”

He said Virtual Axis and any other sponsor, who want to conduct any event, should not be allowed to do so until unless they clear all the backlogs and it should be made compulsory to run affairs in smooth and transparent fashion.
