KARACHI - Anti-Corruption Department of Sindh has booked the officials of Sindh Government Hospitals in Karachi.
An FIR was registered at Anti-Corruption Police Station against Sindh Government Hospital, Korangi Medical Superintendent Dr Khalid Bukhari, Accountant Kamran Khan, Assistant Administration Syed Najam Ali Shah and store in-charge Faisal Sagheer.
Similarly, another FIR was registered against the officials of the Sindh Government Hospital, Saudabad including Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Abdul Shakoor Abbasi, Account Asif Qadri, store in-charge Majid Imran and kitchen in-charge Afroze Alam.
According to Anti-Corruption Department Director Nazar Bodar, another three cases will also be registered against the officials of three more hospitals – two in Larkana and one in Hyderabad. He said the Anti-Corruption team has so far conducted 87 raids and also submitted a detailed report to the Sindh High Court.
“The officials have been found involved in embezzlement and misusing the patient welfare funds.”
He further said that in the first stage, the evidences have been collected and in the second stage, ACD registered cases and in the final stages, these accused officials will be arrested.
Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent, Sindh Government Qatar Hospital, Orangi Town, Dr Syed Khalid Masood has said the hospital urgently needed 16 Medical Officers and 12 Women Medical Officers to improve patient care.
Talking to media, Dr Khalid said that the number of visiting patients has been increasing day by day in 410-beded hospital and around 3,000 to 3,500 patients visit OPDs in the hospital on daily basis. He said about 28 general doctors' posts are lying vacant in the hospital including 16 males and 12 females.
He said the posts of specialist doctors, including neurosurgeon, nephrologist, pediatric consultant, ENT consultant, plastic surgeon, neurologist and radiologist, are also lying vacant in hospital. The hospital administration has been facing acute shortage of anesthesiologists as six posts are lying vacant.
He informed that 107 nurses posts had been sanctioned for hospital but 72 nurses are available in the hospital for three shifts, while 35 seats are lying vacant in healthcare. Dr Masood said hospital offers all major OPDs services, including gynecology, orthopedic, ENT, cardiac emergency, emergency care, blood bank and other diagnostics facilities, to residents of Orangi Town and other neighbouring localities free of cost.
He said around 800 to 900 patients are brought in hospital's emergency department daily basis. He said that currently, 175 doctors are performing their duties at the hospital but institution urgently needs general doctors to improve patient care at healthcare.
He informed that Qatar Hospital was declared a teaching hospital few years ago and is affiliated with Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) Karachi, but unfortunately, this teaching hospital's status is yet to be implemented in letter and spirit.
