Women all over the world have raised the battle flag against social injustice. Pakistani women too should be awakened from the stupor that makes them believe their oppressive conditions are the fait accompli that they have to face because of the accident of their birth. The moral laws enunciated for them and the cultural configurations that determine their lives have to change. Such an awakening is a necessary condition for their emancipation. Human dignity is beyond sexual differences. Beyond manliness and feminism there is humanism. History illustrates that a woman can achieve anything she wants. It is high time we the Pakistani women asked for our due place in the society. -SCHEHRYAR AHMED, Gujranwala, via e-mail, June 26.
