People block road to protest youth's killing

LAHORE - Sabzazar police have forcibly dispersed the people who were protesting against the innocent killing of a youth by placing the body on road. Scores of people including the relatives of the victim identified as Nazar Ali Bhatti gathered near Kharak stop Multan Road and blocked the road for traffic by placing body of the youth. Nazal Ali Bhatti was shot injured some days ago by thee local people during a scuffle on a minor issue. He, however, succumbed to his injuries at Jinnah Hospital on Thursday. Police baton charged and fired in the air to disperse protestors. Police officials after reaching the scene tried to disperse the protestors through negotiations with them but to no avail. Later, policemen fired in the air to disburse the protestors but they did not leave the place and started pelting stones on the police party. Meanwhile, police officials retaliated and baton-charged the protestors. Sabzazar police said Muhammad Nazar Bhatti, a resident of Awan Town, and his friend Waqas alias Vicky had a dispute over a minor issue with the accused Arshad alias Achu. Both the parties scuffled again and later Arshad, his friend Faisal Jutt and another opened fire injuring critically Nazar Bhatti and Vicky. They however, managed to escape from the spot. Young girl commits suicide A young girl allegedly committed suicide by swallowing poisonous pills in the Township Police precincts on Thursday. The victim, identified as Sobia, 20, a resident of Town Ship area was daughter of Taufeeq Ahmad. On the day of incident she was annoyed with her family over some minor domestic issues after which she got disheartened, locked herself in the room and swallowed poisonous pills. Her family found her in a state of unconsciousness and rushed her to the Jinnah Hospital where she died. Police handed over the body to deceased's family. DSP, inspectors suspended for torturing citizen Inspector General of Police Punjab Shaukat Javed has suspended one DSP Attique Sindhu, Inspector Ahmad Raza and Inspector Malik Raheel Amjad on the charge of high-handedness, unlawful detention and torturing to Mian Shamas a resident of Ichhra Lahore. He also ordered to arrest and register a criminal case against them under PPC & police order and also called explanation of the then SP Model Town Imran Ahmad. He issued these directions in the light of enquiry report of DIG Investigation Lahore Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera. According to a handout, a citizen of Ichhra Lahore Mian Shamas submitted an application to the IG police for registration of case against the police officers of Model Town subdivision on the charge of high-handedness and illegal detention. The applicant further stated that he obtained order from the court of an Addition Sessions Judge for the registration of case against the police officers but no case was registered. He again filed a contempt petition before court where the court once again ordered for compliance, but no action was taken. The applicant filed a write petition before the Lahore High Court, Lahore. Lahore High Court directed the IGP to comply the order of the court. IG police Shaukat Javed ordered the DIG Investigation to hold an enquiry and submit report immediately. According to enquiry report DSP Attique Sindhu was the main responsible officer for the alleged interrogation/high-handedness of Mian Shamas while Inspector Ahmad Raza and Inspector Raheel Amjad were part of his interrogation team. In the light of enquiry report IGP ordered to register a criminal case against DSP Attique Sindhu, Inspector Ahmad Raza and Inspector Raheel Amjad and arrest them and also directed to submit challan in the court against them. IG also ordered to suspend the said three police officers and initiate departmental action for major penalty.
