National Badminton C'ship unveils differences in PBF

ISLAMABAD The 53rd National Badminton Championship unveiled the differences between President Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF) Nazar Mohammad Gondal and Secretary PBF Aamir Hayat Khan Rokhri. Also, the status of the National Badminton event has become questionable. Earlier, the PBF had allotted this prestigious national event to Islamabad Badminton Association (IBA) but later, secretary PBF withdrew this event from hosts on July 2 as the final was due next day at same venue. President PBF Nazar Mohammad Gondal, who is also federal minister for food and agricultural, graced the closing ceremony as a chief guest. He watched the final and distributed the prizes, shields and awards among the best performers of the local fixture. Secretary PBF Aamir Hayat Rokhri told TheNation that this was not a national fixture and players would not earn ranking points. The federation was not satisfied over the arrangements which were made by the IBA to hold the national event, he said. The organising committee did not follow the rules and regulations during the competitions. They collected Rs 1.2 million sponsorship but drinking water was not available for the national players. The organisers failed to arrange any alternate for power failure and the players faced countless problems during the championship, he said. Replying to a question, he said that he had powers to withdraw the national championship from the IBA. I received many complaints against the organisers. The 53rd edition of the national badminton championship will be held later and it will be allotted to any other unit, he added. To another question, Rokhri said that a single man had awarded championship to Islamabad and that single man had authority to withdraw the event from Islamabad. Ali Mehdi and Ahsan were facing the same issue but the IBA allowed Ali to play the championship while Ahsan was sent back to home. This is not justice and the PBF will not bear this double-standard act, he said. After the closing ceremony, Nazar Gondal denied such reports in which secretary PBF had announced to withdraw the national event. Later, an official of IBA Imtiaz Gil told this scribe that the president was here in the ceremony and Rokhri had allotted this event to the IBA saying that how would it not be a national fixture, he added.
