Cop killed, 7 hurt as muggers take away Rs1.8m

FAISALABAD - Four armed assailants, riding a car, shot a police constable dead while critically injured seven other policemen including the Bostal Jail Assistant Superintendent and took away Rs1.8 million here in a daylight rubbery on Jaranwala Road on Tuesday.
A source in the police said that the Bostal Jail employees were taking an amount of Rs1.8 million for the payment of salaries of the jail employees when four car riders intercepted them on Jaranawala Road outside Kohinoor plaza Centre Point. The culprits let off a volley of gunshots on them, killing police constable Tahir Iqbal instantly while Bostal Jail Assistant Superintend Asif Aii Shah, police constables including Abdul Rauf, Muhammad Asif, Mubashir Saleem, Nawaz, Imran and Asif were critically injured. They were rushed to Allied Hospital while the outlaws made off with the money. Upon information a heavy police contingent of police reached the spot but to no avail as the outlaws had made good their escape. The incident created panic as the area where the incident took place is considered as posh area of the city.
