LAHORE - The Hippocratic Oath doesn’t allow doctors to go on strike but they have disgraced their oath by violating it, Lahore High Court judge Justice Ijazul Ahsan said.

Hearing a civil miscellaneous application against doctors who have been on strike for the past 14 days, he said: “Doctors can’t go on strikes after leaving patients in the lurch. They are bound to help the patients.”

The court sought reply from Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), Punjab government and Young Doctors Association (YDA).

The petitioner filed the civil miscellaneous application in his already pending petition challenging the strikes by young doctors.

He contended the strike launched by doctors was against the spirit of fundamental rights and also negated the sanctity of profession. The petitioner requested the court to cancel the licenses of protesting doctors.
