PA Opposition requisitions session on doctors’ issue

LAHORE - The Opposition in Punjab Assembly has requisitioned Assembly session to discuss the issue of strike by young doctors and the resultant deaths of patients taking place in various public sector hospitals.
Bearing the signatures of PPP and PML-Q legislators, Opposition Leader, Raja Riaz submitted the requisition in Assembly secretariat on Tuesday.
Later, addressing a news conference in his chamber, Raja demanded of the Speaker to convene the session within a couple of days without waiting for the 14 mandatory days so that an important issue of public importance could be discussed in the House without any delay.
Answering a question, the opposition leader said that doctors’ strike was unjustified and they should report back to their duty without fail. He also stressed upon Punjab government to order immediate release of the detained doctors.
Raja, however, said that it was due to stubbornness of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif that the issue of young doctors had been unduly lingered on. The opposition leader demanded of the judiciary to take suo moto notice of the matter to help resolve the deadlock.
Accusing the PML-N leadership of having a dictatorial mindset, the PPP leader said it was regrettable that PML-N had handed over civil hospitals to the army repeating its history of doing the same in case of wapda. In the end, Raja urged both the doctors and the government to eschew their stubbornness in the interest of ailing humanity.
