KARACHI - At least five people including two workers of the Pakistan Peoples Party and a policeman were gunned down in a spate of target killings in different parts of the metropolis on Tuesday.An activist of the PPP and a passerby were gunned down in an act of target killing in Orangi Town within the remits of Pakistan Bazaar police station. Deceased PPP worker was identified as Shahid Ahmed aka Shaheen Bihari, 35, while the passerby as Muhammad Haroon, 50. The body of the PPP worker was first taken to the private hospital located at Stadium Road. Later, they were shifted to the Civil Hospital for autopsy before handed over to his family while the body of a passerby was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police officials said that the incident took place in Sector 14-E, Orangi Town where at least two armed motorcyclists targeted the victim. Their actual target was the PPP activist while the passerby became the victim in the volley of bullets. Tension prevailed in parts of Orangi Town while a heavy contingent of law enforcers was deployed to avoid any untoward incident.Shortly after this incident, another PPP worker namely Muhammad Saleem Awan Khan, 35, was gunned down when at least four armed men, on two motorcycles, sprayed bullets on his car near his home in Qaimkhani Colony, Baldia Town within the jurisdiction of Mochko police station. Police officials said that the deceased was the PPP Cultural Wing’s president for West Zone and was a close aide of Salam Bihari. His body was taken to the ASH where scores of PPP workers and supporters reached and shouted slogans against the incident.Separately, a police constable identified as 47-year-old Gulzar Alvi, was gunned down near his home in Petal Wali Gali in Rizvia police precincts. The deceased was posted to the Hassan Square police headquarter and was on the way to headquarter when at least two armed motorcyclists shot and killed him. He was shot thrice and died on the spot. His body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. DSP Shahid Abbas said that the initial investigation suggested that the deceased was killed in the ongoing wave of target killings of police personnel and officers in the city. Further investigation was underway.However, a 65-year-old man identified as Noor Habib was gunned down outside his factory where he was working as a watchman in Site area. Police official said that the deceased hailed from Kohat and apparently killed over personal enmity. His body was taken to the Civil Hospital, Karachi and later handed over to his heirs. No case was registered till the filing of the report.
