BANNU- Commissioner Bannu, Syed Mohsin Ali has informed that so far 575,000 people have been registered as IDPs with more than 28,000 families having received financial assistance.

On the matter of ongoing relief efforts for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the wake of Operation Zarb-i-Azb, the commissioner stated that 3 registration points had been established for the registration of people coming from different areas of North Waziristan, with the supply of food and other necessities already streaming into the area. He added that aid was received from all over the country to facilitate the relief efforts.

Army officer Brigadier Aftab said the army has distributed food rations to 70 percent of the families.

"Forty thousand families have received rations,” the military official said. "In the coming days, Baka Khel camp would be transformed into a model camp.”

He requested the IDPs residing in the cities to come to the Baka Khel camp.

Zarb-i-Azb, a long-awaited military offensive by Pakistan aimed at eliminating militants from their stronghold in the North Waziristan tribal district, started last week following a brazen attack on the country's busiest airport in Karachi.
