ISALMABAD - Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has finally sent four names to Speaker National Assembly Iyaz Sadiq for the party’s representation in the Electoral Reforms Committee.

These names included Senator Aitazaz Ahsan, Senator Raza Rabbani, MNA Syed Naveed Qamar and MNA Shazia Marri after opposition leader Khurshid Shah’s assurance to Prime Minister to propose their party’s names.

“Shah has given four names including two Senator and two MNAs,” said the opposition leader’s spokesman.

The committee comprising the two houses of parliament to take up the issue of electoral reforms and prepare comprehensive recommendations to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in the country.

The PM had said the parliamentary committee might consider suggestions to amend the constitutional provisions relating to caretaker governments and the adoption of the latest technology currently available for holding elections.

Opposition leader, a couple of days before, had also written a letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif asking him to immediately appoint a regular CEC in the country.

The office of CEC has been vacant since Justice (Retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim resigned in July 2013. The government and opposition factions could not reach a consensus for the appointment of CEC due to some legal hitches.
