The funeral for of army officials who embraced martyrdom in train accident in Wazirabad on Thursday, was offered while death toll from the incident has reached 19 after another five bodies were recovered from the canal Friday morning. It is to be noted that four bogies of a special Kharian-bound train carrying military troops derailed over Chanawan Bridge near Jamke Chattha and fell down in the canal.
The three bodies recovered Friday morning were identified as Naik Arif, Islam, Naseer, 12-year-old son of Unit Commander Lt-Col Amir Jadoon and Subedar Usman. Gujranwala Corps Commander Lt-Gen Ghayur Ahmed also visited the scene Friday morning and inspected rescue activities. Army aviation helicopters and SSG divers are engaged in rescue efforts whereas more than eighty persons have been rescued. Restoration work on railway track is underway and it is expected that it will take more than two weeks to complete.
TRAIN DRIVER LAID TO REST
IN FAISALABAD
Namaz-e-Janaza for driver of the ill-fated train Ch Muhammad Riaz was offered at Railway Colony here. He was 57-year-old and going to retired from service after three years.
DCO Noorul Amin Mengal, RPO Muhammad Ehsan Tufail, CPO Afzal Ahmad Kausar, large number of Railway Employees, relatives, friends of deceased and citizens attended the funeral. Later, Fateha was also offered for 12 Army Jawans, their family members and Unit Commander Ameer jadoon, who were martyred in the tragic train mishap. On the occasion, people expressed sympathies with the bereaved families and those injured in the worst train incidence occurred near Jamke Chattha.
While condoling with members of bereaved family of Ch Muhammad Riaz, the DCO, RPO and CPO told that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed them to convey his sentiments to the bereaved family and pray to Almighty Allah to rest the departed souls of Muhammad Riaz and other martyred in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved families to bear this tragic shock.
