ISLAMABAD - Brigadier (R) Iman Ullah has been appointed as Managing Director of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC). The post was vacant for a long time due to government negligence. It is pertinent to mention here that the then Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in September last had removed PTDC Managing Director Sulman Javaid, who had been appointed on contract, on the charges of misusing his authority. PTDC Joint Secretary Najeeb Khawar Aawaan was appointed as Acting Managing Director of the Corporation. In the meanwhile, Sulman, former MD, had challenged the Prime Minister's authority in the court regarding his removal. The court had granted stay order against the appointment. The writ was dismissed in favour of tourism ministry however, the post remained vacant for a long time.   Unfortunately, PTDC, which is supposed to work for the promotion of tourism on global level, suffered a lot due to absence of managing director for the last eight months. "The ministry had submitted a summary to the Prime Minister for the appointment of new MD through Establishment Division and at last the Prime Minister appointed new MD", a source in the corporation said. The source further informed that PTDC deputy managing director also be appointed soon as the post is laying vacant since last one and half month due to the transfer of ex DMD. The staff of the corporation has appreciated the MD appointment and hoped that he would make the corporation in order.
