Rains leave six dead in interior Sindh

Karachi (PPI) - Dust storms and rains hit some parts of interior Sindh on Tuesday, killing six persons, injuring dozens and damaging property worth millions of rupees, besides causing suspension of electricity supply to many areas. The Met Office had forecast dust storm and rains in Sindh, particularly over coastal areas including Karachi, Badin and Thatta. The rains turned the weather pleasant; however, at some areas, dust storm resulted in some casualties and damage to properties. According to reports reaching here from various parts of Sindh, three persons including a woman, identified as Ms Hani, Allah Wasayo and Allah Warayo, died in roof collapse incidents in Kanshkot town of Jacobabad district, while many others suffered injuries. The heavy winds also damaged many Katcha houses, standing crops and electricity polls in Jacobabad, Kandhkot and Jafarabad. Badin also received showers. The rains turned weather pleasant in the area. Earlier, three persons Ramazan Imrani, Sajid Ghanchi and Nawaz Dars fainted due the sizzling heat, before the rains. The heavy windstorm uprooted several electricity polls near SITE Grid Station Sukkur, causing suspension of electricity supply to Sukkur and adjoining areas on Monday night. However, electricity supply to some parts of the city was restored after seven hours. The heavy winds also lashed Tando Adam resulting in collapse of roofs of several houses. Three persons died and more than 12 injured in these mishaps. The deceased were identified as Ms Imamzadi, Amir Magsi and two-year-old minor girl Najma. The electricity supply to the town was also suspended due to the uprooting of polls hit by the storm.
