ISLAMABAD - High inflation rate has forced the primary school teachers to raise the voice in favour of their demands for increase in their salaries, allowances and equal rights in all provinces here on Tuesday. Pakistan Teachers United Front (PTUF) has announced to observe hunger strike till death unless fulfilment of their demands. They stressed the government to reserve 20 per cent quota in employments, educational institutions and all universities for teachers' sons, as they cannot tolerate high educational expenses. They were expecting possible relief by the government in upcoming budget of 2008-09. Chairman PTUF, Haji Abdul Ghaffar sought a 100 per cent relief to the nation builders of Pakistan budget. He also appealed to the government to handover the educational institutions to provincial government excluding District Government. He also insisted to restore the higher qualification increment again, which was terminated in 2004. "The government has been treating the Punjab teachers step-motherly by giving Basic Pay Scale (BPS) No 7 but in the NWFP the same category of teachers have been given BPS-9," Raja Zafeer Ahemad, a PTC teacher said. They were holding banners and placards inscribed with their demands.
