Women folk to be empowered: Neelam

LAHORE - Punjab Minister for Population Welfare, Mrs Neelam Jabbar Ch has said that women folk will be empowered in all sections of society and opportunities of employment will be provided to them in government, semi-government and private organisations so that they could play their due role in the development of the country. She expressed these views while inaugurating one-day provincial consultation workshop on 'Current Fiscal Proposals & Mainstreaming Gender in Provincial Budget', here on Tuesday. Mumtaz Moghal of Aurat Foundation, Sajida Ahsan, Fameeda Riaz, Bushra Gardezi, Sajida Mir and Afshan Farooqi MPAs were present besides Mehnaz Rafi, Neelam Shah, Khalid Butt and Qayyum Nizami also attended the workshop. She said that government at federal and provincial levels would fulfill the agenda of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed regarding the empowerment of women folk because no society could make progress without the participation of the women in economic, social and political fields. She assured the gathering that the recommendations of the workshop would be included in the provincial budget for the welfare of the women population. She emphasised the need to hold such seminars at district and tehsil level so that women fold at remote areas could be made aware of their rights and role in socio-economic development. Later addressing the people at open kutchehry at Peoples' Secretariat Faisal Town, the minister said that open kutchehries were being held to solve the people's problems. Most of grievances, she said, were being solved at the spot, therefore, time and money of the people was being saved. Neelam said open kutchehries by the ministers would also be held at district level for the redress of problems at the doorsteps of the people.
