ISLAMABAD - Opposition as well as coalition partners of the ruling PPP govt on Friday expressed their dissatisfaction over the budget for fiscal year 2011-12 presented here in the National Assembly. Addressing a Press conference at the Parliament House after the presentation of budget by the govt, Opposition Leader Ch Nisar Ali Khan said that PML-N has started its protest campaign against the rulers from the budget day and its end would be in the interest of people of Pakistan. He stated that President Asif Ali Zardari has made the Parliament and the country hostage while the Government has made people fool in the budget. He said that the government did not care about democratic norms. Nisar further said that the Parliament passed a resolution unanimously but the Government did not pay heed to it that was an insult to the people. He warned that things would not remain as smooth and easy for the government as they used to be in the past. 'The only aim of this government was to complete its tenure, he said. 'President Zardari has become more unpopular than former military dictator Pervez Musharraf, he added. He accused the government of doing nothing except presenting an IMF-prepared fiscal outlay. Bushra Gohar of Awami National Party termed it a status quo budget ,however, said it was good only in one sense and that was the share of provinces, which has now increased. She was of the view that in the budget for fiscal year 2011-12 the PSDP was ignored while ,adding, that there was nothing in it for a common man. She said that the Government would have to reduce its expenses. Talking about the defence budget, she said that the defence budget should also be discussed in the Parliament. 'The defence budget was increased and it should be politically reviewed. There was no such reason for that, she added. Dr Farooq Sattar of MQM ,however, said that the budget was not people-friendly ,however, it could be a good budget for nation if the Government considers MQM budget proposal. He said that the Prime Minister has assured him that their budget proposals would be considered. 'If the government means business, it would have to change the budget formation and its mechanism. We had rejected the Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) last year and this year as well, we have ensured that the RGST has not been incorporated in the budget, he added. Haider Abbas Rizvi went on to say that no budget could be people-friendly till the time when the true representatives of the people prepare the budget.
