OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) President Qasim Zia and Secretary Asif Bajwa Friday felicitated hockey umpire Waqas Ahmad Butt who was promoted as FIH international umpire after the recently concluded Azlan Shah Hockey Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia. Waqas is son of Jameel Butt who is also an international umpire. Waqas was given chance last year in various national events as a National 'A' grade umpire and he had done his job brilliantly. Seeing his superb performance, the PHF gave him chance in Azlan Shah Hockey Cup where he proved his worth with his hard working and impressive umpiring. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) appreciated his umpiring and he was promoted as an international umpire. Waqas has now honour of becoming the youngest international umpire of the country as well as becoming international umpire soon after his first event. Waqas next assignment is the upcoming Asia Cup Under-18 Hockey Tournament.
