LAHORE In what appears to be a new idea, Federal Finance Minister Dr Hafeez Sheikh on Friday announced a step which, if approved by parliament, will replace the conveyance policy for officials in grades 20-22. The minister said the transport policy for the officials working in these grades is proposed to be 'monetized. Although he gave no details, this means that the officials would be given cash rather than governments transport and fuel. After monetization, a fixed amount will be paid to the officers as conveyance allowance, leaving it to them to arrange conveyance for themselves. The step will eliminate the possibility of misuse of governments vehicles, a practice which is very common.
