LAHORE - Quaid-e-Azam was right in accepting Pakistan in an uneven state because if he had objected to its raggedness, he would never have been successful in gaining a homeland for the Muslims of the sub-continent.
These thoughts were expressed by The Nation Editor-in-Chief Dr Majid Nizami in his presidential address at a special sitting titled “The Plan of the 3rd of June 1947-- An Important Landmark in the Pakistan Movement” held at the Aiwan-i-Karkunan-i-Tehreek-i -Pakistan. The sitting had been jointly organised by the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust and the Tehreek-i-Pakistan Workers Trust.
Nizami said Gurdaspur had a majority of the Muslims, but it couldn’t be annexed to Pakistan. The division of Bengal was also effected on similar lines and Pakistan was deprived of several Muslim majority areas. Later on, our Eastern arm separated from us and became Bangladesh, being ruled by Sheikh Mujeeb’s daughter these days.
Nizami lauded Nawaz Sharif for making a compromise over Balochistan. He expressed the hope that, now Balochistan would not be going to meet the fate of Bangladesh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has chosen Imran Khan and the red-capped ones are no longer in sight.
NPT vice chairman Prof Rafique Ahmad said it was the Two-Nation Theory that kept us from the domination of the Hindus. The Congress approved the plan of June 3 thinking that Pakistan won’t be able to keep its separate entity intact and would, ultimately, have to rejoin India.
On June 3, 1947, the Quaid-i-Azam’s address was broadcast from the All-India Radio which ended with the slogan of “Long Live Pakistan” in his own voice, It had boosted the morale of the Muslims tremendously, recalled Rafique.
Prof Parveen Khan, Professor Shehnaz Sattar, Professor Zahida Shaheeen Niazi, MK Anwar Baghdadi, Chaudhry MA Shaida, Advocate also spoke on the occasion. They recalled the acts of sacrifice made by the students during the independence struggle. A large number of people from different walks of life such as Mian Farooq Altaf, Prof MA Soofi; Muhamamd Qamar Altaf; Justice (r) Munir Ahmad Mughal, and Shahid Rashid were present on the occasion.
