A six-member team has proved the financial embezzlement and irregularities of millions of rupees in the development schemes of the Sialkot Tehsil Municipal Administration.

The team has submitted its inquiry report to Commissioner Gujranwala Division Shamail Ahmed Khawaja. The report revealed that the Sialkot TMA did not start work on 64 development schemes despite their successful tendering. It said that the TMA has the powers to get the development works conducted amounting Rs100,000 only in emergency case. However, it got several development schemes worth Rs10 million conducted without their tendering in emergency category illegally.

The report added that no official record of the office expenditures worth Rs3.2 million of Sialkot TMA was found. According to the Director Local Government Shehzad Hameed, the Commissioner has taken very serious notice of embezzlement, corruption and fraud of millions of rupees in several development schemes of Sialkot TMA.

The commissioner has recommended stern legal action by Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) and departmental probe against the corrupt officials including Tehsil Officer (P&C) Sialkot Saeed Ahmed, Guardian Superintendent Shaukat Ali, head clerk Arif and clerks Tariq Bajwa and Rashid under the Peda Act by the Secretary Local Government Punjab.

GOVT APPROVES RS550M PROJECT: Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said on Wednesday that the Punjab government has approved a 3-km road project for connecting Pasrur and Narowal road here.

According to the federal minister, the Punjab government would complete the project with a cost of Rs550 million. The project would be completed in one and half years, he added.

He said the project would help reduce travelling time of people. He said people belonging to Pasrur-Sialkot, Narowal, Shakargarh, Baddo Malhi, Qila Ahmedabad, Badiana, Chawinda and surrounding areas will travel for 15 minutes to reach Pasrur from Narowal. He assured that construction work will be started very soon.
