As if occupying school buildings on the pretext of non-availability of accommodation was not enough, the Rangers have now began to do business by even renting out these buildings to private parties as was recently reported in a number of national dailies. Noor Muhammad High School is one of the historic educational institutions of Sindh in the heart of Hyderabad. The school is known for being a high-class education facility with the attachment of a grand hostel to provide boarding & lodging of students from rural Sindh at a nominal cost. Unfortunately, the hostel of the school has been occupied by the Rangers at present which has rented it out to a builder. Education is one of the lowest priorities of our governments and the province of Sindh has been the worst sufferer in this regard. The highest number of ghost schools i.e. about 9000, were reported to be located in this province. Most of those schools were in the rural Sindh. In urban Sindh, in cities like Karachi and Hyderabad, the blight of the schools is the Rangers, which is occupying a lot of them. The occupation of Noor Muhammad High School Hostel and illegal renting out of its portions to some private party by the Rangers is a great challenge for the civil society of Hyderabad. The Chief Minster, Education Minster Sindh as well as district Nazim are requested to get it vacated. -QAZI BASHIR AHMED, Hala, via e-mail, February 16.
